Thirty years ago, Baby and Johnny swept the world off its feet with the unexpected film hit, Dirty Dancing. Its soundtrack, featuring (I've Had) The Time of My Life, She's Like the Wind and Hungry Eyes, was also a global phenomenon.
One of those songs, Overload, was penned by singer, songwriter and actor Alfie Zappacosta, who had a huge hit in the '80s with We Should Be Lovers. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Dirty Dancing, Zappacosta will be performing the songs from the film on Friday, Nov. 17 at the Royal Alberta Museum Theatre — accompanied by musicians and dancers. Tickets are available via eventbrite.ca.
Zappacosta stopped by Agnes + Sandra's Three-Way to talk about the Dirty Dancing juggernaut, his early days as a reluctant rock star (and musical theatre actor), his infamous wrestling-in-jello video, and his eventual move to Edmonton.
